The aim of the BAOBAB cooperative society is to spred culture and traditions of developing countries, selling the local products and investing the earnings on the projects of the countries involved in "fair and solid" trade.

What is the "fair and solid" trade?

It is an alternative way of trading;it is a long time that the Southern producers have begun to seek for new markets, trying, this way, to escape the exploiting "Great Trade", of which they always have been the favourite victims.

This proposal has the intent of creating a real bind between Northern consumers and Southern producers;(this bind is getting real thanks to associations as the BAOBAB). This way, it will be possible for the Southern producers to improve their conditions and to promote a financially autonomous production; the "fair and solid" trade is born in little african, asian, and southamerican cooperatives, and the prices are decided according to the costs of the local producers; two coordinating centers have been created: the EFTA (European federation of alternative trade) and the IFAT (International Federation of Alternative Trade).

Many independent organizations work in the inside of the structure of the "Fair and Solid" trade , as the TRANS FAIR INTERNATIONAL, the aim of which was to found a registered trade mark for products as coffee, tea, cocoa cane sugar. The trade mark is managed by many societies, interested in the development of a fair trade.
TRANS FAIR INTERNATIONAL doesn't sell the products, but decides the productors' choosing standards, and the prices to be payed them. The developing countries' shops are the main promoters of this new way of trading;as such, they are the TRANS FAIR INTERNATIONAL greatest supporters;obviously, this shops don't work for the sake of gain only, but to promote the bind with the represented countries mainly.
Any of us that can go to the BAOBAB cooperative society (Torino, via Saluzzo 83E ph. 6690392) will have the opportunity of directly contributing for the survival of tha small groups of farmers and artisans, with the guarantee that the purchased products will never be the object of any kind of speculation.
